Monero Miners don't forget to update your mining software

Oliver 5 years ago updated by Devon 5 years ago 14

Dear Monero Miners

The Monero project will change the PoW algorithm that is used for mining on October 18th to enhance the coins resilience against ASIC miners. Because of this change all pools and miners need to update their software. Our Monero pool is already fully updated and tested with the latest release and should smoothly transition to the new mining algorithm.

Miners need to update their software as well as older miners will produce 100% rejected shares from October 18th onwards. Our Monero pool homepage has been updated with instructions for the latest XMR-Stak 2.5 release. The setup generator has been updated as well.

Update: Be advised, since both XMRig and XMR-Stak slightly updated their configuration, you should not only update the miner but generate a fresh config as well. You can use the the Setup-Generator on the pool site to assist you with that.

Happy mining

I love when they update the algorthim, you see a big drop in difficulty and for us. More coins!!! yay!

Only if our ~90 miners update...

12 miners...

Whoops.

Do the configs need changed?

Not much. For XMR-Stak 2.5, the value you need set for the "currency" property in pools.txt is now "monero".

Also if you are using precompiled executable on Windows make sure the retarded OS doesn't block and quarantine your mining software because it thinks its a trojan....

Thought I was all set, came home to find my rigs dead silent and not running.

Windows Defender Folder Exclusion is key here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028485/windows-10-add-an-exclusion-to-windows-security

I naturally have ton of mining software laying around for testing and this is the only solution to make it bearable.

So 2.5.0 is out and 2.5.1 or something is in?

My update was meant for those miners who still haven't updated to a v8 compatible miner. If your rig is working, then you don't have to do anything.

Thank you! I'm back into mining.

Great that you got it working.

Anyone know if the new algorithm is supposed to reduce hashrate "by design"?

Seem to be hashing about 400 H/s (200 H/s per thread) less on my AMD Vega 64

Ahh ok I see, will try out tips posted on forum.

Thanks Olilver
