96 degrees on what exactly? CPU, GPU?

Tell us more about your build (closed, open?) and cooling. Photos could help.

96degrees on cpu. thats when its set to shut down, the its not a miner just an i7 laptop with a 1050 that happpens to be on mostof the time anyway but no extra cooling. I dont pay for the electricity so i figure it might as welll be mining. i only get about half a kilohash

Well I'm afraid you can't do much with a laptop. You could try adding a cooling pad or lowering the load on cpu if your miner allows to do so.

Or if the laptop hasn't been serviced for a long time give it a proper cleaning and while doing that replace thermal compounds on cpu and gpu.

its new. it was fine until last week possibly the weather upping the ambien temperature Am I likely to do any damage having my shut own at 96c for 10 secs on any core of the the I7? I've stopped for now untill  can get an answer from someone with more knowledge than me.

Well I'd say it's definetely not healthy for the CPU in the long term.
